Earlier today, protester and police once again engaged in conflict. In this situation, it was about the barricades erected by the protesters, blocking major routes across the city. In the beginning, the police began to dismantle the barricades by cutting the zip ties that held them together. The protesters retaliated by strengthening the barriers, with as much as they can find.
The police resort to using chainsaws to cut down barriers with tougher ties, such as bicycle locks. The protesters begin cementing barricades down and adding concrete blocks.
Ultimately though, the police managed to remove some barricades blocking certain roads and traffic is reopened to them. However, the majority of Central is still occupied and restricted to vehicles - this further adds to the tensions between Occupy Central protesters and people who wish for their departure.
Admittedly, there are other ways around HK Island (because it's an island!). However, the majority of these roads are small, narrow, winding, steep and only have two lanes. This results in fantastic traffic jams, which are added on to normal rush hour traffic. Last week, a ten minute drive home lasted 1 hour and 30 minutes, nearly overheating our car in the process. It might've been faster to walk had it not been the fact that I would've had to trek across a steep mountain.
As usual, the situation has resumed a standoff mode. People continue to call for the resignation of the current CE, CY Leung. They are opposed by ones that have been disturbed and inconvenienced by their presence outside of the Central Government Offices. Tensions will only continue to rise from here, spiking when the authorities and protesters conflict once more.

Well, that's one way to do it, I guess.
